I don't know if this has always been the case but I recently dealt with my flight being delayed. I headed over to the lounge area and was promptly stopped and told I had to go elsewhere as they reach full capacity. I could choose to wait in a line of what seemed to be over 150 people or I could just go on my way. I ended up wondering around until the flight was sorted. I felt drained after that.
I don't remember lounges having this be an issue. Did something change?
There have always been issues with crowding but it has been made worse since COVID-19.
Having experienced this myself firsthand, it can be a nightmare so I understand what you were going through. A lot of these issues have to do with airports around the world being understaffed as well as zones being more restricted due to lack of security.

Maybe this was in certain airports? I just don't remember them being this bad. I will take your word for it though. It makes sense this would be the case. If they don't have enough staff, they likely close down sections of the airport.
They have always had issues but it has been in larger airports around high-travel times. Think of Christmas time, for example. Everyone is in a rush to go see family or book a trip to leave the country for a vacation. I have had my own run-ins with issues due to overcrowding. Airports have always been nightmares!
