I have wanted to join in on a vacation home somewhere, where I can travel and get discounted for it. Not having to worry about where I will be staying. Many people have mentioned timeshares to me but I have always seen them in TV and movies as scams. I don't want to end up being scammed into something. I am not sure how to go about finding legit timeshares online. Does anyone know?

I guess what you want to do is go with a well-known company that hosts them. This way you avoid getting overbooked, double-booked, or charged extra for a place that you seemingly have no access to.
